2008-2009 SI LeadersFor those students who may be interested in becoming future SI leaders, the following is an outline of SI leader roles/responsibilities:

QUALIFICATIONS TO BECOME AN SI LEADER

  • Completed Course for which you are instructing.
  • Received at least an A- in course
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Hold a Junior or Senior class standing for given year
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN SI LEADER

  • Attend all trainings and weekly meetings (before after and during semester)
  • Conduct two 60 minute SI sessions a week throughout the semester
  • Develop a working relationship with SI course instructor, and meet weekly
  • Submit attendance rolls weekly to SI coordinator
  • Ensure mid and end of semester evaluations are conducted
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the SI Program
  • Evaluate SI Program

RESPONSIBILITIES IN CLASS

  • Attend class and take thorough notes on all lectures, do all homework assignments, and read all assigned materials before SI session
  • Advertise SI sessions to your class regularly

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PLANNING SI SESSIONS

  • Utilize SI planning forms to prepare organized, effective SI sessions
  • Incorporate collaborative and active learning techniques
  • Create materials to aid students in learning course materials

RESPONSIBILITIES DURING SI SESSIONS

  • Take roll during each session
  • Create a comfortable learning environment
  • Ensure students actively participate in the learning process
  • Teach study skills such as reading, notetaking, and exam preparation skills
  • Implement ideas learned during SI training
